Reflections on mercy and justice in Alabama this Easter season: op-ed

As Christians across Alabama prepare to celebrate Easter, we are reminded of the hope that the cross brings and the values that ground our faith: redemption, grace and the promise of new life. Easter calls us to reflect not only on what we believe, but on how we live those beliefs out in our daily lives and in our communities.

Reflecting on the new life this season brings, one truth stands out to me: justice and mercy work in concert with one another. A powerful and recent example of this is Governor Kay Ivey’s clemency decisions for Charles “Sonny” Burton and Robin “Rocky” Meyers.
